The Scarborough Bluffs also known as The Bluffs, is an escarpment in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There are nine parks along the bluffs, with Bluffers Park being the only one with a beach. These parks feature spectacular views of the bluffs and Lake Ontario, trails, beaches, gardens, sports and recreation facilities. For those
who love to hike, variety of walking trails makes exploring this fascinating gem of a park a real pleasure.
Rosetta McCLains Gardens features special braille signage, raised planters, rose gardens and a rock fountain surrounded by a pergola. It is a haven for flower connoisseurs, bird and butterfly watchers. The park has spectacular views of Lake Ontario from the top of Scarborough Bluffs and is a popular spot for wedding photos.
Guild Park and Gardens. This scenic and historic park, formerly Guildwood Park, is a sculptural sanctuary and has beautiful gardens. It has an interesting history that reflects famous artists, powerful political figures and contributions made to the art community.
Thomson Memorial Park – This 41.8 hectare park follows the West Highland Creek and has many paths through the large wooded ravine that let visitors to experience nature in the city. The park also has a lit ball diamond, a lit multipurpose sports field, three lit tennis courts, permitted picnic/social gathering areas, a dog’s off-leash area, outdoor fitness equipment, a wading pool and a children’s playground.
Scarborough Museum – Scarborough Museum is set along the walking trails of beautiful Thomson Memorial Park, once the farm fields of Scarborough’s first settlers and now a popular heritage community. The museum shows the history and development of Scarborough from its founding and early settlement to its growth and emergence as a major suburb in the 20th century.
Toronto Zoo is a 20 minute drive and accessible by TTC. It encompasses 287 hectares (710 acres), the largest zoo in Canada and one of the largest zoo in the world. It is known for its interactive education and conservation activities. It is divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Tundra Trek, Australasia, Eurasia, and the Canadian Domain. It also has areas such as the Kids Zoo, Waterside Theatre, and Splash Island. It has one of the most taxonomically diverse collection of animals on display of any zoo; it is currently home to over 5,000 animals (including invertebrates and fish) representing over 500 species. There are also over 10 kilometers (six miles) of walking trails at the zoo to explore as you check out the animals. The Splash Island educational water park uses interactive exhibits to teach about the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, etc.); aquatic animals; water flow in rivers, lakes, and oceans; and more.
Rouge National Urban Park is located near the Toronto Zoo. Most of the park is located in Toronto’s suburban district of Scarborough, while parts of the park are in the bordering cities of Markham and Pickering. The park is a rich assembly of natural, cultural and agricultural landscapes. It is home to amazing biodiversity, some of the last remaining working farms in the Greater Toronto Area, Carolinian ecosystems, Toronto’s only campground, one of the region’s largest marshes, unspoiled beaches, amazing hiking opportunities, and human history dating back over 10,000 years, including some of Canada’s oldest known Indigenous sites.
